People would be surprised to know that flood has become part and parcel of life of Bihar. The first time I saw flood was the year 1987, when I was residing at Muzaffarpur (situated on the banks of Gandak). One fine evening because of heavy rain, water entered our rented home, though it was at a good height but still almost one and half feet water level encroached every corner of my home. Life was fun, catching fish, running in water and making water boats were few activities we (me n my childhood friends) engaged in. During nights we were not allowed to step down in water, as small snakes were commonly seen roaming, though they were not dangerous, but you never know, any one of them can have fangs. “Dhorwa” called in local language were common snakes found littering lethargically, and we used to run behind them with sticks making their life hell. That time we used and invented new methods of catching fish and we got bottles and after great hard work we used to catch 3-4 fish of different variety, I kept them for almost 6 months before they died. Those days were total fun days, schools were closed, no home work, no studies, all day catching fishes and making paper boats. We never realized the pain of flood and wished every year this should happen. In my village, which is fortunately, unfortunately situated at the banks of Ganga, flood is common phenomenon but varies in scability, some times flooding only the farm lands some times the low lying villages.
Last year for the first time I went into the flood hit Western part of Bihar, the devastation was caused by the conglomerated of Gandak, Budhi Gandak, Kamla Balan, Ghaghra, and impact of Kosi was very less. Many towns and villages of Motihari, Muzaffarpur, Darbhanga, Samastipur, Sitamarhi, Begusarai, Khagaria, Seohar were flooded. You can not imagine the scene over there, I saw children playing in water enjoying, I remembered my old days. I talked with some of them, they were happy with it, as they don’t have to do any work, relief camps were there to provide them food. But people have lost their houses, their scanty resources and hopes. There was water everywhere but not a drop to drink. Water filled with dirt and when it receded left numerous diseases making them difficult to survive.
Ironically, I attended a State Level workshop on 10th August at 1 Anne Marg, Patna, called by the state disaster management cell and attended by all big names in the world of development, Oxfam GB, Oxfam Hongkong, CRS, CRY, Save the Children, Medicins sans Frontiers (Doctors without boundary, got noble prize in 1999) , GTZ …….. list goes on. In that meeting I raised the issue of embankment of rivers and but those “brokers” of poverty stopped me from speaking and said “we should focus on relief work”. The country director of CRS, (a foreigner lady) very enthusiastically and proudly said, “we are distributing high protein biscuits for the children”, I said her, even if there is no flood more than half of the children in Bihar are malnutritious, so you continue this project till all the children comes in grade-I list.
With deep frustration and anger, I felt like sitting with the “agents of poor” whose main work is to sell poverty to the world, hence I decided to leave then and there in between. When I was leaving, a young lady doctor came to see me and she was surprised to know that flood is a common phenomenon in Bihar and this is not the first time it has struck. I told her if you stay in India, wait for august and you will get the same news next year only difference will be names of places submerged. After exchanging cards, I left the place.
If she is in India, she must have realized the apathy of life of bihari people who have accepted to fight with death.
Have any one realized that lots of suicide took place in Vidarbha, Karnataka, and AP, but not a single suicide case reported from Bihar. Their whole world has been accumulated into a “dolchi” (box made of plastic wire, commonly found in bihar) and a “lalten” (lantern).
You might be thinking when the water recedes, they will get their land back, I am sorry to say that, rivers take their land too, making them wait for next flood so that they will get their land back from the rivers. I salute to the spirit of Bihari People for their will to survive.
Ask any school going boy/ girl in Bihar “Bihar ka shok kise kahte hain?” (What is the sorrow of Bihar called?) , Unanimously the answer will be : “KOSI"...

Go getter..
Once upon a time there was a bunch of tiny frogs.... who arranged a running competition. The goal was to reach the top of a very high tower.
A big crowd had gathered around the tower to see the race and cheer on the contestants....
The race began....
Honestly: No one in crowd really believed that the tiny frogs would reach the top of the tower.
You heard statements such as:
"Oh, WAY too difficult!!"
"They will NEVER make it to the top."
or: "Not a chance that they will succeed. The tower is too high!"
The tiny frogs began collapsing. One by one.... Except for those, who in a fresh tempo, were climbing higher and higher....
The crowd continued to yell, "It is too difficult!!! No one will make it!"
More tiny frogs got tired and gave up....
But ONE continued higher and higher and higher....
This one wouldn't give up! At the end everyone else had given up climbing the tower. Except for the one tiny frog who, after a big effort, was the only one who reached the top!
THEN all of the other tiny frogs naturally wanted to know how this one frog managed to do it?
A contestant asked the tiny frog how he had found the strength to succeed and reach the goal?
It turned out....
That the winner was DEAF!!!!
The wisdom of this story is: Never listen to other people's tendencies to be negative or pessimistic.... because they take your most wonderful dreams and wishes away from you -- the ones you have in your heart!
Always think of the power words have. Because everything you hear and read will affect your actions! Therefore: ALWAYS be....POSITIVE!
And above all: Be DEAF when people tell YOU that you cannot fulfill your dreams! Always think: God and I can do this!

272 on 22-7 for 123
I love numbers, I just love numbers and what could have been a better number game than "272 Game". Today is the "D-Day" which will decide the future of the government and the "N-Deal". For many 272 is important but for Rahul, 123 is much more important than 272.
I would like to quote some facts regarding the number game: -
1. Before this 11 times, confidence motion was put on the floor, govt won 6 times and lost 5 times.
1. Before this 11 times, confidence motion was put on the floor, govt won 6 times and lost 5 times.
2. Last floor test was in 1999 where Mr. Bajpayee lost by just "one" vote.
3. For the first time, Left and BJP have joined hands to vote against the Congress govt.
But this test for the govt has changed many dimensions. The first thing that came into light was "horse trading" (Have you ever thought why this is called horse trading not cow or bull trading? there is a story behind this try to search for the name cause.).
Mayawati's projection as first Dalit Mahila Pradhan Mantri by Left and UNPA.
MPs changing political parties.( Shri Nitish Kumar branded UPA as Universal Poachers Assosiation, I feel sad for his party as 2 JD(U) MPs have deserted him)
Whatever the political analysts say, I am confident (more than Shri Laloo Prasad Yadav) that the govt is going to win the confidence vote and Nuclear deal will surely happen. Hope for a better future.

News Day..
The moment I switched on my TV, there were shower of news from every corner. I enjoyed watching them and for the first time I had to switch on to active news of Tata Sky (Thanks to the technology ) as I was not in a mood to miss any of them.
Starting with a tick tack-tick tack watch of US, which is going to ring in a short while and the adamant LEFT, which doesn’t seem to be on a compromise mood this time simultaneously the threat from our honourable PM to quit if the deal fails. Most of the news channel have forgotten “arushi” and have concentrated on this high profile drama where the UPA supporter politicians, Lalu & Paswan, seeing no threat on the government and so called political analysts believe that government is in deep shit. Keep your finger crossed and watch this Sas (Sonia ) and bahu (left) serial.
Moving to business channels, almost all the channels were flashing with the breaking news of CRR and RR hike from the central bank of India. This news might have given sleepless night to the MDs & EDs of the banks and to make the matter worse, these TV channels are bothering them on the phones asking them stupid questions “was it expected?”. Anyway much more masala was added to the news with a pinch of inflation and projections were done (which is hardly right).
But these are not interesting news for a frustrated middle class junta who has come from the office to watch some masala news. Don’t worry, Aaztak was fulfilling their demand with a breaking news of “Pati, Patnin aur woh” , a story of extra marital relation. This was the least bothered news to be watched by a sensible guy, hence could not hold my tv screen for more than 10 seconds.
For sports fan, especially football fans, who can not cheer for their own country but see a sense of pride and honour to be associated with any of the big names, Germany, Italy or Spain, an analysis for the semis of Euro cup was going on pressing Turkey a meek creature in front of Giant Germany in the leader ship of Great Ballack. On the other hand a loud applause for Gus Hinddik, who again repeated the history after 6 years, earlier qualifying S Korea to the Semis of WC-2002 and now pushing Russia into Semis ( beating the mighty Dutch). I agree that under his coaching, these chaps not only play with a rhythm but also look in attacking mood. Waiting for Sunday to see the final and hope the dream of making Russia No. 1 country in the world (Putin’s dream) will start with Euro 2008 championship win.
Lots of cricket going around the world this time, people getting bored with this game (seriously) so the ICC is looking for emerging markets like Hongkong and UAE, as they are the new entrants in the Asia cup and both have lost their first match with a hope that some day they will win the cup.
As usual, our dream girl, Sania has cleared her first round in the Wimbledon, lets see, how many rounds she can clear this time before she tumbles...
So its time for wait and watch, enjoy watching news….

Hazaron "Arushi" aisi !!
Since last one month, whenever (24X7) I switch on my TV and go for any news channel (Leaving business news channel) the breaking news regarding arushi murder case pops up: “Talwar going for narco test”, “Weapon of murder found”, “Krishna detained by CBI” bla bla….
With a population of over one billion, and almost half of them consisting of better half (God knows why they are called better half!!), and more than 70% of those are “arushi”, getting killed everyday, at every nooks and corner of our society. But no body is bothered about that “arushi”, not a single TV channel has tried to demystify the mystery of declining number of “arushi” in our country.
I bet you don’t have to go for more than a kilometer from your house and you will find “arushi”, getting verbally, physically or sexually abused or getting killed, getting unnoticed. No body cares leaving some focused NGOs, downtrodden posters which says “Beti bacho varsh – PNDT Act blab la” and few concerned citizens of largest democratic country of the world.
The most interesting fact that came up regarding the news that, it increased the TRP of the news channel, whom to blame, the middle class junta who are causing the price rise of the food grains at the world level (thanks for the analysis Mr. Bush). I too agree with Mr. Bush for his astonishing finding regarding these bourgeois middle class, who watch these news channels and eat a lot. Getting frustrated from their life and try to search for entertainment from this news, they keep on searching new news out of this story like a Byomkesh Bakshi serial and thanks to these news channels which are fulfilling the needs.

I was roaming in a poorest district of UP where I found this poster of “arushi” who is appealing for not killing her. Save as many “Arushi” as you can !!

Hare and Tortoise
I will tell you a story, a story which you have heard hundred times in your childhood. But this is the remake of the story (Like "aag" for "sholay" ). The story is about two friends, a hare and a tortoise. Hare was smart, intelligent, hard working but he has a jealous feeling towards the tortoise. On the other hand, tortoise was mediocre and OK kind of chap. Both were living life in their own way.
One day the hare came to tortoise and made a challenge that they will be running from Samoa to Vanuatu. So the day was fixed and they started their journey. Hare ran fast, his only aim was to reach the goal first. He ran harder, he got stressed and got blood pressure problem. Then he decided to take rest. He thought he should sleep for sometime and then move forward. So he slept. Tortoise on the otherhand started his journey slowly he saw the islands, the beauty of the beach, the mountain, the river, the flower. Slowly he reached there where hare was sleeping, he woke him up and said "hey dude! you are sleeping, you don't want to win". The hare woke up immediately and ran with full speed. This time also he was in full stress and only thing running in his mind was winning. In the mean time he got mild heart stroke, so he decided to take rest for some moment.
On the other side, the tortoise was covering the distance slowly, enjoying life, made new freinds, girl friend, married her and took her along with him. So they reached the place where hare was sleeping. He went there and woke him up and introduced with her wife. Hare felt quite frustated and ran with full speed to complete the reace, as and when he reache Vanautu, his heart was pounding and he got a big heart stroke and he died there only. Slowly the couple reached there and saw his friend dead. The tortoise felt bad and burried his old friend there only lived his life happily.
